Estimating the prevalence of screening positive for and testing positive for sleep apnoea during pregnancy among a sample of people birthing in and around Auckland, New Zealand: A feasibility studyWhat is the purpose of this study?
The study is looking at whether we can screen pregnant people for a condition called sleep apnoea or mate hoto hau (this means someone’s breathing stops during sleep)
We also want to see how many hapū/pregnant people might have mate hoto hau/ sleep apnoea.
We also want to see whether it easy and achievable for people to complete a home sleep test and receive home treatment for mate hoto hau/ sleep apnoea.

How common are sleep problems during pregnancy?
- We think around 1 in 3 pregnant people may have breathing problems during sleep.
- These problems are sometimes called sleep apnoea.
- Sleep apnoea means breathing stops during sleep.

What symptoms do people with sleep apnoea have?
- Snoring
- Not feeling rested after sleep

Can sleep apnoea cause problems during pregnancy?
Yes, sleep problems can sometimes cause high blood pressure or slowed growth of baby.

If I join the study, what do I need to do?
- Complete an online sleep survey
- Allow us to see your medical records
For most people, this will be the end of the study
- If your survey shows that you may have sleep apnoea, we would like to offer you an overnight sleep test at your home at no cost to you
- If you have sleep apnoea we will offer home treatment at no cost to you
